Gerald Winters and Son Plants is proud to introduce our latest offering – Calamondin Orange Tree. This starter plant will produce Citrus mitis (calamondin) fruit in approximately 2 years. Calamondin trees are cold hardy citrus trees (hardy to 20 degrees F. or -6 C.) that are a cross between a mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata, tangerine, or Satsuma) and a kumquat (Fortunella margarita), basically a “mini-orange”. Each tree measures approximately 3” - 5" from top of soil to the highest leaf. They can vary in size, but are quick growing, so even a smaller plant will be considerably larger in a couple of weeks. They can be grown indoors in a container, to produce an ornamental plant, or outdoors as a hedge, if you live in warmer climates. These hardy trees will adapt to any surroundings. Calamondin citrus trees were introduced from China to the U.S. around 1900. Used in the United States primarily for ornamental purposes and often as a bonsai specimen, Calamondin trees are cultivated throughout southern Asia and Malaysia, India, and the Philippines for their citrus juice. The Calamondin will fill your home with a heavenly scent and several flushes of blossoms and fruit throughout the year. The yellow-orange fruit of the Calamondin Tree is about the size of a lime or a tangerine and has a thinner skin than most oranges, making it delectably delicate. It has a lightly tart taste that's perfect for marmalades, juicing, cooking and baking. Each plant is wrapped in thermal bubble wrap to protect against freezing temperatures in transit. Proudly grown by Gerald Winters and Son Plants of Bangor, Maine. Adopt one today.
